The Miss Old Gold and Black Scholarship Competition is a national program created and sponsored by Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. in 1976 and hosted by its local collegiate chapters. The pageant serves as a platform for developing women of excellence through character education, value clarification, economic and social empowerment, mentorship, leadership, and a lifelong commitment to service. It provides participants with opportunities to showcase their talents, intellect, and dedication while representing themselves and their communities in a positive manner.

The National Miss Old Gold and Black Scholarship Competition was first held in 1976 during the fraternity's General Convention in New York and was won by Miss Denise Smith, representing Zeta Mu Chapter at Georgia State University. Following a brief hiatus, the competition returned in 1981 and resumed at the 1982 General Convention in Los Angeles, California.

The Xi Tau Chapter officially established its Miss Old Gold and Black Scholarship Pageant on October 10, 1987, beginning a tradition that has become one of the chapter's premier signature programs. Since its inception, the pageant has recognized and developed exceptional women who exemplify scholarship, leadership, service, and excellence while strengthening the chapter's impact on the Georgia Southern University community.

Over the years, the Xi Tau Chapter has produced multiple category winners at the Georgia District level. During the 2024–2025 competition cycle, Miss Old Gold and Black Amariya Moses achieved the chapter's highest placement to date, earning Best Talent and Best Spirit honors en route to being named 3rd Runner-Up at the 2024 Georgia District Miss Old Gold and Black Scholarship Competition.

Today, the Xi Tau Miss Old Gold and Black Scholarship Pageant continues to be one of the chapter's most anticipated annual events. It remains an important tradition at Georgia Southern University, providing young women with opportunities for personal and professional growth while inspiring them to become servant leaders and positive role models on campus and within their communities.
